Iam a Black Muslim but NOT Nation Of Islam

It’s almost inevitable, if you’re African American (or even African) and people find out you’re Muslim the first question out of their mouths (well, maybe second after “Where are you from?” regardless of whether or not you have an accent of any sort) is if you’re part of Nation of Islam. This is just wrong!

Just because Iam Black Muslim doesnt mean I belong to Nation of Islam.

assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, i am too a revert in the united states. I am the first Muslim in my family and InshAllah not the last. I am a college student and i started wearing hijab so many people asked where i was from although they already seen me in un-modest clothes. I was asked many times about the Nation Of Islam but could not tell them something i had no part of. People i knew talked about me saying hurtful things like i was in a cult, that i was dumb to cover up, that i had a weak mind to become Muslim. Family that don’t understand ask questions like ,”how can you stop drinking, how can you wake up and pray so early, why don’t you listen to music like back then, why wear a scarf its hot, etc” I simply say because i love and fear Allah Subhana Watala. You are not alone sister lease know your Ummah is hear and we understand.
